Nanumba South DCE Host Indian Investors 24hr Economy Secretariat On Biomass Project Assessment Tour

On Saturday, 10th January 2026, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanumba South, Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid, received a high-powered delegation of investors from Atri Energy Transition Private Limited of India, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shishir Kalkonde, alongside officials from the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, in a strategic move aimed at deepening investment and accelerating socio-economic development within the Nanumba South District.

The visit formed part of an assessment tour of the ongoing Biomass Power Plant project at Juoli, while also offering the delegation an opportunity to explore additional investment prospects across the district.

During a formal engagement with the delegation, Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid presented a comprehensive profile of the Nanumba South District to the Chief Executive Officer of Atri Energy Transition Private Limited, Mr. Shishir Kalkonde, his team, and officials from the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat. He highlighted several priority sectors that are open and ready for investment, including the establishment of a cereal processing factory, irrigation-based agricultural ventures, ruminant rearing, waste recycling initiatives, and opportunities within the hospitality industry. He further emphasized that the district’s strategic location, availability of arable land, and growing population make it an attractive destination for both local and foreign investors.

Officials from the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat explained that the initiative is a flagship government programme designed to reduce Ghana’s reliance on imports while addressing the persistent challenge of youth unemployment. According to the Secretariat, the programme is projected to create approximately 30,000 jobs nationwide, with significant benefits expected to trickle down to municipalities such as Nanumba South through targeted investments and industrial expansion.

Touching on the Biomass Power Plant project, the Secretariat noted that the facility is expected to generate 500 megawatts (MWt), while also producing animal feed and organic fertilizer as by-products. The team further revealed plans to complement the biomass project with solar farms in the future to enhance renewable energy generation and sustainability.

Following the briefing session, Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid, with the support of the Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Hon. Abdul Samed Hamza, and the District Chief Executive for Nkwanta North, Hon. Isaiah Kudjo Dordoe, led the delegation on a field tour on Sunday, 11th December 2026, to several communities, including Damanko, Juoli, and Opijua. During the tour, the team engaged community members, briefed them on the objectives of the project, and assessed local conditions. The delegation also toured nearby water bodies using an engine boat to evaluate water levels and determine their capacity to provide adequate water for the project’s operations.

Chiefs and residents of the visited communities expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid, the project partners, and the John Dramani Mahama–led government for initiating and supporting the Biomass project. They noted that the initiative holds the potential to deliver lasting socio-economic benefits, including improved livelihoods, employment opportunities, and enhanced development for the people of Nanumba South and its surrounding communities.
